Daniela Grollová-Spenser: Wallachian roots and the story of my father Kurt Groll

During the second visit of historian Daniela Spenser to Malé Mehrin, we will focus more on the fate of her father Kurt Groll, a native of Valašské Meziříčí. We will talk about his fate and the fate of his loved ones... We will ask what it is like to search for the history of one's own family and try to think about what memorials are built and which ones appeal to us the most. Daniela Spenser spent her childhood and youth in Czechoslovakia, but left after the August invasion, studied in the UK and the USA, and eventually settled in Mexico, where she focused on the history of relations between the Soviet Union and Latin American countries. While working on her book Dispersed Times, Dispersed Lives (which was also published in English and Spanish), she came across the topic of the history of Czechoslovakia's Jews, and is now focusing on „Jewish“ themes and how to commemorate them in public space. Admission is voluntary.
